Memories

There are some things that have been consistent throughout my pregnancy, and I want to make sure to commit these memories to paper, or um, cyberspace I guess?

-Sharing Ritz crackers with Aspen in the bed at 3:00 am.
-"The switch" (Scott says I go from good to bad in a matter of seconds around 9:00 each night).
-"Left-side laying time" (when I get to take over Scott's couch and stretch out on my left side).
-"20 minute pee" (Every night I sleep for exactly 20 minutes before my first trip to the RR).
-"Preventative Pee" (I try not to be a burden on my trip mates, so everytime I am about to go somewhere I make a trip to the bathroom "just in case")
-Cravings: Anything sweet and mostly chocolate (moose tracks icecream and brownies A LOT)
-"Snuggle time" (Every morning before we go to work Scott and I spend about 10 minutes snuggling and talking about our upcoming day).

Baby Timeline

I am not sure how to spiff up this blog with an updating timeline like so many of our friends have, so for right now it will just be old fashioned. I want to be able to look back and remember these times (especially since I have not bought a journal or baby book yet :)).

The first trimester for us was filled with several things including: nausea 24/7, hormonal rages (exemplified in the now-famous "battle of the bacon"), stress, and elation.

August 28, 2010 (4 weeks pregnant)
It's positive! As most people know, Scott and I experienced a miscarriage in June of 2010. We had been so excited for our first baby, and then to lose it so quickly was devastating. So when we got pregnant 2 months later, we were honestly more scared than excited. We kept it very quiet and only told our parents. The way I told Scott- very unromantic. I told him I thought I was probably pregnant, so he went and picked up a test for me. I took it, and within a couple of minutes we saw that sweet pink line! We hugged, and tried to go on about our day!

September 17, 2010 (7 weeks)
The sweetest sound! Scott and I went to our first ultrasound. We were both about to jump out of our skin in the waiting room. Luckily, they called us back very quickly. As the U/S tech started the procedure, she was great in immediately telling us there was a good heartbeat. Then we saw our little " gummy bear" and she turned up the volume. It was one of the best moments of my life! Scott was suppressing a smile (because that is him) and I immediately began to cry (because that is me). It truly was the sweetest sound! When we left the doctor separately to go back to work, I got a text from him saying, "I am very happy. Call me later. 458". :)

October 22, 2010 (12 weeks)
We had another U/S and got to see our baby again. It had grown so much and was actually looking "human". The heartbeat was strong again, 146. Now the doctor's visits were becoming more of a good thing.
12 weeks

The second trimester has been really good. Feeling better, A LOT more energy, and a peace that has come over us.

November 24, 2010 (17 weeks)
At my 16-week appointment, I got to hear the heartbeat again. 153. Dr. Pitcher said that if I believed Old Wives' Tales that it was a girl. We couldn't find out for 4 more weeks. It was KILLING me! Scott continually reminded me to be patient, that we had a healthy baby and that was what is most important. It was true :)

December 5, 2010 (18 weeks)
I felt my first "official flutter" while on the tennis court. I had been wondering if some feelings were it, but this one I was sure of. My baby did a full roll in between my first serve and second serve. I didn't get much of a chance to reflect, but I did smile through the rest of the day. I am surprised that I did not double fault! It was so very neat!

Decembe 17, 2010 (20 weeks)
IT'S A GIRL! Scott and I had our U/S scheduled for 3:00 on that Friday. However, the day before there had been a "snow day", so they were really backed up. We waited for almost an hour. Friends of mine had told me drink a little caffeine (to make sure the baby wasn't stubborn in one position). Well- the tech could tell right away: It's a Girl! In my heart I had always felt it was a girl, and that is what we were both expecting. But to hear it was so wonderful. The rest of the U/S was so fun- seeing arm bones, facial features, measurements of internal organs. We got to see everything except our tech said, "You will have to count fingers and toes later because she won't stay still long enough for me to count!" Well- maybe I had a little too much caffeine!
Cate at 20 weeks
After our appointment, we went to dinner with our parents. I made pink card stock announcements that read: Sugar and spice, and everything nice... Catherine Allen Robbins is on her way! We went to the restaurant and had the hostess put them in our parents' menus so when they opened to read it that is what they saw. It was such a great moment! The grandmothers were also hoping for a girl. It was the perfect evening!
The menu insert (wish I could rotate this pic)
Grana and Granddaddy ("Catherine" is after Grana Cathy)
BB and Pops ("Allen" is after BB's middle name)

January 3, 2011 (22 weeks and change)
This is the first time I felt Cate from the outside. I was on the couch relaxing while Scott made dinner. All of the sudden, she had a karate kick that made my stomach bounce. It was almost better than the first time I felt her from the inside, just because it was so obvious what it was. I could not stop smiling the rest of the night. I feel so blessed as a woman to be carrying a life! How incredible.

January 7, 2011 (23 weeks)
Cate was having a dance party in my tummy, and I called Scott over because I was pretty sure he would be able to feel her from the outside. I made him sit there patiently, and it paid off. She gave me a kick to the left side and he definitely felt it. His comment can be construed two ways: "OOH!" or "EWW!" All I know is that he was a) excited and b) kind of freaked out. He told me he pictured the famous scene from "Alien" and that is how he thought of the movement. Lovely, Daddy!

Becoming a blogger?

I am trying! Most people following this know plenty about us, but how about a summary anyway? Scott and I began dating in highschool, when he was 15 and I was 14. I have added some of our highschool pictures for your enjoyment!

After 2.5 years together, we went our separate ways and "rekindled" our romance in 2003 while Scott was living in Charleston, SC. In August of 2004 Scott asked me to marry him, which I did in October of 2005.

We have had an incredible 5 years of marriage together. Scott works in the finance industry and I am a math teacher. We both LOVE our jobs and feel very blessed to be employed :) We live in Dallas with our 2 crazy dogs, Aspen and Larry (aka "Aspen-face" and "The Beag").

In August of 2010, we were blessed to find out that we are expecting our first child. Catherine Allen Robbins is due on May 5, 2010 (Cinco De Mayo). Scott has made me promise to hold out as long as I can with going into labor, as he does not want a college-age daughter whose birthday is one of the heaviest drinking days of the year! We are both thrilled to have a daughter coming to us and -again- feel incredibly blessed. Photos and other posts to come soon...as soon as I figure out what I am doing... :)
